Margaret Qualley turned heads at the London premiere of the film The Dog Stars with an unconventional dress that quickly became one of the big talking points of the red carpet.

The American actress arrived in Chanel’s striking barefoot sandals that had her feet bare and were very different from anyone’s feet at the event and immediately caught photographers, fashion pundits and fans’ attention online.
The August 20 premiere brought together the cast and creative team behind the upcoming post-apocalyptic thriller. Qualley joined director Ridley Scott and co-stars Josh Brolin, Jacob Elordi, Benedict Wong and Guy Pearce on the red carpet. The film itself was the big attraction but Qualley’s bold look on the red carpet made her a fashion moment in its own right.
Margaret Qualley's Unusual Chanel Footwear
Chanel barefoot sandals were unlike conventional red carpet footwear. The design wasn’t a traditional sandal or shoe that covered the foot so the small leather heel cap would be secured with lacing. The unusual construction left the soles, arches and toes completely uncovered, but one could still have a feel of barefoot but with a designer shoe option.
The design also featured Chanel's recognizable gold logo around the ankle, but with a premium level of luxury in a very minimalistic footwear. The unusual shoes were carried out by designer Matthieu Blazy as part of Chanel's Resort 2027 collection in Biarritz, France.
Qualley’s choice to wear the signature design at a major film premiere showed the actress’s willingness to experiment with fashion. Red carpet dressing is typically about dressing up in dramatic gowns and statement accessories, but the barefoot sandals were a totally different approach and became the unexpected centre of attention.
A Striking Black Chanel Look
Although her shoes were the most talked about, Qualley's entire ensemble was carefully styled. She was wearing an elegant black dress with delicate fringing that added movement and texture to the look. Cap sleeves, a plunging V-neckline and a fluid silhouette were present and accounted for in a sophisticated yet relaxed manner.
The ensemble is believed to have been made by Matthieu Blazy for Chanel and so the shoes and dress are part of a whole fashion statement. Qualley did not try to overwhelm the outfit with all the accessories but focused on the unusual sandals and flowing black dress.
She kept her beauty styling fairly understated. Her hair was loose with soft waves and a centre part, and glossy red lips added a bold finish. That simple beauty styling balanced with an unorthodox footwear choice helped to keep attention on the overall silhouette.
Jacob Elordi Keeps It Classic
Qualley’s co-star Jacob Elordi opted for a much more traditional red carpet look. The actor wore a sharp navy pinstripe suit with black-rimmed sunglasses, creating a classic and polished appearance.
The contrast between Elordi's timeless tailoring and Qualley's experimental Chanel styling added another interesting aspect to the fashion scene of the premiere. Both actors showed a very different approach to red carpet dressing and yet were very much individualistic in their own right.

A Red Carpet Moment to Remember
Margaret Qualley’s barefoot sandals showed us that red carpet fashion doesn’t always have to follow traditional rules. With an experimental Chanel design that exposed almost the entire foot, the actress turned a simple footwear choice into a headline-making fashion statement.
The unusual shoes, along with her elegant black fringed dress and understated beauty look, made for a memorable appearance at The Dog Stars London premiere. As a bold fashion experiment or a bit of a surprise for the unusual design, the barefoot sandal look certainly succeeded in what statement fashion is meant to do: provoke a conversation and keep it going with people.
