Health hormone regulation is critical to all of your health, from energy and metabolism to mood, sleep and reproductive health, and everyday vitality. No food can cure or reverse hormonal imbalances; nutrition is critical to the body’s natural hormone production and regulation.

And in order to have good health, we need to have a balanced diet (lots of healthy fats, protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals). One good way to include those resources and nutrients in our day-to-day lives is to prepare Dry Fruit and Seed Laddus (a sweet high-quality, healthy snack with lots of nutrients).
These homemade laddus are made with a mix of nuts, seeds, makhana, roasted coconut, cocoa and dates and taste good without consuming any sugar. The product is healthy with all ingredients contributing to the energy and thus is a good mid-day snack, pre-workout fuel or dessert option.
Almonds and cashews have heart-healthy unsaturated fats and plant protein, vitamin E and antioxidants that are good for health. Flaxseeds are some of the richest plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids and lignans and as a whole can help you to get your estrogen metabolism to keep up as part of a balanced diet. Sesame seeds also contain lignans with calcium, iron and healthy fats so that is another key component to hormone-supportive meals.
Pumpkin seeds are naturally rich in zinc and magnesium—minerals involved in many bodily functions, including normal hormone production and immune health. Sunflower seeds provide vitamin E, selenium and healthy fats to protect cells from oxidative stress. Makhana (fox nuts) adds a light crunch and protein, calcium and antioxidants for relatively little calories; it has become a staple component of healthy Indian snacks.
Instead of refined sugar, soft dates are used as a sweetener. Dates have dietary fibre, potassium, magnesium and natural sugars that give the laddus sustained energy and are also the glue that links them to the laddus. Roasted coconut provides healthy fats and flavours and cocoa powder adds antioxidants and a rich chocolate taste without too much sweetness. A little orange zest adds freshness and salt helps the taste.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp almonds
- 2 tbsp cashews
- 2 tbsp flaxseeds
- 2 tbsp pumpkin seeds
- 2 tbsp sunflower seeds
- 1/4 cup makhana (fox nuts)
- 2 tbsp roasted coconut
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 3 tbsp soft dates
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tbsp ghee
- Pinch of orange zest
- Pinch of salt
Method
Dry roasting almonds, cashews, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and makhana separately over a low flame until aromatic. All roasted ingredients should be left to cool completely before grinding to a coarse mixture. Don’t grind too finely because a slightly coarse texture, when it comes to the laddus, gives the taste of a nice bite.
In the meantime, heat half a tablespoon of ghee in a pan and add the chopped soft dates. Cook them on low heat until they are soft, sticky and lightly caramelised. Add the warm dates to the ground nut-and-seed mixture and mix thoroughly so that everything combines well.
Cocoa powder, orange zest, and a pinch of salt are then mixed together until the mixture is soft and mouldable. When the mixture is still warm, you can mold it into small bite-sized laddus with your hands. If necessary, lightly grease your palms with a few drops of ghee to make rolling easier.
They can be stored in an airtight container for many days at room temperature or refrigerated for longer freshness and are great for breakfast in the morning, lunch, travel or a rapid energy boost between meals.
Although these laddus are loaded with healthy ingredients, they should be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced diet because nuts and dates are calorie-dense. Before making any significant dietary changes, people with allergies, medical conditions or special dietary requirements should consult a healthcare professional or registered dietitian.
By combining nutrient-rich nuts, seeds, and naturally sweet dates, Dry Fruit and Seed Laddus are a healthy and convenient way to enjoy nourishing, all-around healthful foods that help in our overall well-being. If you want to get some healthier homemade snack from scratch, or to have more whole foods in your diet and healthy eating as part of a whole plan, this easy recipe is the perfect addition to a balanced diet.
