Makeup Hacks You Can Use Every Day: Simple Tricks for a Faster, Flawless Look

You don’t need a makeup kit and hours spent in front of the mirror to create a polished everyday look. A few simple makeup hacks can make your routine faster, easier and more effective. If you’re getting ready for work, college, a casual outing or a coffee date, small changes to the way you apply your products can make a noticeable difference.

Everyday Makeup Hacks

And from preparing your skin to using one product in multiple ways, such everyday techniques can help you to get more out of makeup products you already own.

1. Always Start With Well-Prepped Skin

One of the easiest ways to improve your makeup is to pay attention to your skin before applying foundation or concealer.

Cleanse your face gently and follow with a moisturiser suited to your skin type. During the daytime, sunscreen should also be part of your routine.

Allow your skincare products a little time to settle before applying makeup. Well-hydrated skin can provide a smoother base and may help prevent foundation from looking excessively dry or patchy.

2. Use Concealer Strategically

You don’t need to put on a full layer of foundation all the time for your complexion to be lighter. Apply concealer only where you need more coverage when you want a lighter look.

In general, put a little bit around redness, blemishes or under-eye shadows and take care to blend the edges.

For the under-eye area, you do not have to apply much product to avoid over-applying it. Too much concealer can create fine lines and make them more pronounced.

3. Warm Up Cream Products

If a cream blush, contour or concealer is hard to blend, you can warm a little bit between clean fingertips before applying it.

The warmth of your fingers can make some cream formulas easier to spread. Clean your hands and start small so coverage will build.

4. Make your Lipstick a Multi-Use Product

Your favourite lipstick can even be a cream blush. Take a few drops and rub it on the cheeks.

That can create a coordinated look because the colour on lips and cheeks naturally complements each other.

But look at the product instructions first, especially if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin. Not every lipstick formula is designed for use on the cheeks.

5. Apply Blush Where It Flatters Your Face

Blush placement can change the appearance of your makeup. Put a little bit on your cheeks and then blend up toward the temples for a fresh look.

Start with less product than you think you need. It is much easier to add more blush than to remove an excessive amount.

Cream blushes have a fresh touch and powder blush has a longer-lasting colour, depending on the formulation and skin type.

6. Make Your Eyes Look More Awake

There are natural ways to achieve a more awake look, such as keeping the eye makeup soft and well blended.

Curling your lashes before applying mascara can make your eyes appear more open. Apply mascara from the roots to the tips, using a light hand to avoid heavy clumps.

If you wear eyeliner, choose a thin line very close to the upper lash line and not a thick line. This should define the eyes and provide the overall look for daytime use.

7. Use Your Brow Shape to Frame Your Face

Brows can make an immediate difference to the look of a makeup look. Rather than totally reshaping them every day, fill sparse areas.

Using a brow pencil or powder that is very close to your natural brow colour. Use light, hair-like strokes instead of drawing one solid line.

Afterwards, brush the brows through with a spoolie to soften the colour and blend the product.

8. Set Makeup Only Where You Need It

Powder on the face is not always necessary. If your skin gets oily in certain areas, concentrate powder on the areas where you notice shine, such as your forehead, nose and chin.

So, leaving certain areas with a natural finish can make the face look less matte.

If your skin is dry, use the least amount of powder and choose hydrating skincare underneath your makeup.

9. Fix Makeup Mistakes Without Starting Over

Made a mascara mark on your eyelid or put too much blush on? Do not immediately remove your entire makeup look.

Wait for the mascara to dry, then gently brush away the dried mark with a clean cotton swab or small makeup brush.

If a blush is too intense, a clean makeup sponge or brush with a small amount of foundation or complexion product will soften the colour.

10. Keep your tools clean

One of the most useful everyday makeup hacks is also one of the most obvious: clean your makeup brushes and sponges.

Dirty tools can accumulate makeup residue, oil and microorganisms. Wash reusable tools according to their material and the manufacturer’s recommendations, and allow them to dry completely before storing them.

Avoid sharing makeup products and applicators, especially products applied around the eyes and lips.

11. Make Your Makeup Last Longer

If your makeup tends to disappear during the day, focus on thin layers rather than applying a large amount of product at once.

When applying foundation, concealer, blush and other products, gradually add your foundation to the top layer and then let it settle.

A setting spray can also be used if your skin and makeup routine is suited. Blotting papers and/or a small amount of powder can help manage shine without adding heavy layers of foundation.
