Start a skincare routine is not the same as buying a sea of products. For beginners, a simple skincare routine with just a few things to do will help you get on in a simple way so that you can understand and keep the skin clean. Cleanse, moisturise and protect it from the sun.

Your skin type, lifestyle and individual concerns may help you determine whether you need additional products. But starting with the basics can help you understand what works for your skin before adding anything else.
Step 1: The Gentle Cleanser.
Cleansing is a main component of most skincare regimes. A gentle cleanser can remove sweat, excess oil, dirt and sunscreen from the skin.
Use lukewarm water and don’t wash your face aggressively. If you wash too frequently or use bad products too frequently and harsh products, your skin can dry out or get irritated.
For beginners, a cleanser that is customized to your skin type can help. For dry skin, moisturising cleansers can be used and for oily skin, a lighter cleanser can be used.
Step 2: Don't Skip Moisturiser
Moisturiser is beneficial to the skin barrier and to reduce dryness. Even oily or combination skin can benefit from moisturising.
If your skin feels oily you need to use a lightweight moisturiser. If your skin is dry, a richer cream may be more comfortable.
You do not need several different moisturisers for different parts of your face when starting out. One suitable product can be enough.
Step 3: Make Sunscreen a Daily Habit
Sunscreen is one of the most important parts of a daytime skincare routine. Sun exposure can contribute to premature skin ageing and sun damage.
Prefer broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and apply it to exposed skin during the day. Reapplication may need to be made due to outdoor exposure, sweating, and other factors.
Sunscreen should generally be the final step of your morning skincare routine.
A Simple Night-Time Routine
Your evening routine is even simpler. You need to clean your face to remove sunscreen, makeup, sweat and daily buildup. Follow with moisturiser.
For beginners, there is usually no immediate need to go for a lot of serums, exfoliants or active ingredients. Your skin will adapt to a routine and you will be able to tell when a product is irritating.
Add Products Slowly
Once you are comfortable with your routine, you may decide to address certain concerns like acne, dark spots or uneven texture.
Add one new product at a time instead of introducing several products simultaneously. This makes it easier to see what is helping or irritating your skin.
If you have persistent acne, severe irritation or another skin concern, consider speaking with a dermatologist.
Avoid Overcomplicating Skincare
More products don’t necessarily make for better skin. And too many active ingredients can cause dryness or irritation.
A beginner routine can be as simple as:
Morning: Cleanser → Moisturiser → Sunscreen
Night: Cleanser → Moisturiser
Consistency is often more useful than constantly changing products.
Give Your Skin Time
Skincare is not always an overnight process. Your routine needs to be established and your skin must respond accordingly.
Start with fewer products and skincare is cheaper and easier to maintain. You’ll know when you don’t need more products and then you’ll come to understand what your skin needs.
