Guruvar (Thursday) is of great significance for spiritual gurus. Many devotees pray on Thursdays to Shirdi Sai Baba and Sri Raghavendra Swamy as a sign of faith, gratitude, and devotion to them as well as to their spiritual guru. The day is a day of prayer, meditation, charity, and simple devotional activity that many people practice; usually, it is a day for meditation, prayer, charity, and simple day-to-day life.

No one ritual is mandatory for every devotee. Families and temples have their own traditions. Devotees can choose practices that are meaningful to them.
Sai Baba Thursday Ritual
Devotees can begin the day by cleaning the prayer area and taking a bath before offering prayers. A picture or idol of Sai Baba can be placed on a clean altar.
Light a diya and incense and offer flowers. Devotees may offer fruits, sweets, or other traditional food as naivedya. Some also offer milk or water according to their family tradition.
Chanting “Om Sai Ram” is a simple practice that can be included in the puja. Devotees can also read from Shri Sai Satcharitra or listen to Sai Baba bhajans.
Raghavendra Swamy Thursday Puja
Devotees of Sri Raghavendra Swamy can begin their Thursday prayers with a clean and peaceful prayer space. Light a lamp and offer flowers or tulsi if it is part of the family’s tradition.
Devotees can chant “Om Sri Raghavendraya Namah” and spend a few minutes in silent prayer. Reading or listening to stories about Raghavendra Swamy is another way devotees traditionally remember his teachings and life.
A simple offering of fruits or a homemade vegetarian dish can also be made.
Charity and Helping Others
Thursday worship does not need to be limited to rituals at home. Charity and helping people in need can also become part of the day’s spiritual practice.
Devotees can donate food, clothing, or other useful goods to those who need them. Feeding animals or supporting a charitable activity can also be a way of showing compassion.
Simple Thursday Routine
A short routine for people who have little time to do:
- Clean the prayer space.
- Light a diya.
- Offer flowers and fruits.

The ultimate goal of devotional practices is to build faith, gratitude, discipline, and compassion. Thursday worship does not need to be elaborate; a few minutes of sincere prayer can be very special when performed with a calm mind and respectful attitude.
There are multiple families and different ritual customs among people, so devotees can follow the practices taught by their family, temple, or spiritual teacher.
