Interview With a Beauty Influencer: Beauty Tips, Skincare Secrets and Trends to Watch

Social media has changed the beauty industry. Influencers have become the leading source of inspiration for millions of beauty lovers from skincare routines and makeup tutorials to product reviews and viral beauty trends.

But behind the polished photographs and perfectly styled videos is often a person who has spent years learning about products, experimenting with different looks and understanding what their audience wants. To get a sense of the changing world of beauty, we sat down for an imaginary interview with a beauty influencer to discuss skincare, makeup, trends, self-care and the realities of creating beauty content online.

Q: What has inspired you to be a beauty influencer

Beauty Influencer: My interest in beauty started out as curiosity. I loved trying different makeup looks and learning about skincare ingredients. I first posted products and simple tips with friends and family online. I found out then that people also were interested in honest, easy to understand beauty advice.

What started as a hobby turned into a creative platform where I could experiment, educate and connect with people who share the same interests.

Q: What is the best skincare advice you give your followers

Beauty Influencer: Keep it simple. People think they need a huge skincare collection but a simple routine can have a lot of success.

I usually recommend focusing on the basics: cleansing correctly for your skin type, moisturizing, and using broad-spectrum sunscreen in the afternoon. You are going to have to be careful when adding active ingredients to a product or a product is on the market and the product is very small, so you cannot add too many different products at once.

Knowing your skin is more important than following any one trend.

Q: What are the beauty products to be purchased

Beauty Influencer: Don’t buy something just because it is viral. And look at the ingredients, product claims and whether it is appropriate for your skin or hair type.

Though reviews can be helpful, each one’s skin is different. A product that works really well for one person may not work for another.

Budget is also important. Expensive doesn’t automatically mean better. At all price points there are great products.

Q: What makeup trend do you like right now

Beauty Influencer: I am loving makeup that is fresh and personal and not very complicated. And glowing skin, soft blush, defined brows and comfortable lip colours can be a pretty everyday look.

I also like seeing playful makeup. People aren’t following a formula of what beauty looks like; they’re doing colour, shimmer, and unusual eyeliner styles.

Q: What makeup mistakes do people frequently make

Beauty Influencer: Taking too much product too fast. Heavy layers for better coverage are the usual way of applying makeup but that can make makeup look less natural.

When we start with a small amount of coverage and gradually build coverage when it really does matter. Good skin preparation really does make a difference.

Q: Is sunscreen even important for your beauty routine

Beauty Influencer: Extremely important. Sunscreen should not be seen as something you only need during summer or when you’re going to the beach.

The daily sun protection can protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation which can cause premature skin aging and other skin damage. So choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that you are comfortable wearing.

Q: How do we deal with beauty misinformation online

Beauty Influencer: I try to get people to question dramatic claims. Social media moves incredibly fast, and something can become popular before there is good evidence behind it.

If a beauty hack looks too good to be true, check it before you try it. Any skin problems in the medical or long-term (and I do not recommend people just to go to the dermatologist) are always treated with the help of a dermatologist and I try to keep them on my radar.

Q: Has social media changed people’s aesthetic perception of beauty

Beauty Influencer: Definitely. Social media can be inspirational but it can also lead to unrealistic expectations.

Filters, professional lighting, editing and chosen images aren’t always in reality. I believe beauty content should encourage creativity instead of telling people they have to be beautiful.

Everyone has pores, texture, fine lines and imperfections. Those are normal.

Q: What is your advice for someone starting a beauty page

Beauty Influencer: Authenticity and patience. Don’t try to copy someone else’s personality at the same time.

It is important to discover a specific area you love whether that’s affordable makeup, skincare education, bridal beauty, haircare or creative looks— and discover your voice.

Consistency is important, but so is taking breaks. To produce content all the time can be extremely fatiguing and it’s important to protect your health.

Q: What beauty trend do you think will continue to grow

Beauty Influencer: Personalisation. People are more interested in knowing their own skin, hair and individual preferences than blindly following trends.

In addition, we are seeing a lot more interest in multifunctional products, simple routines, inclusive shade ranges and ingredient-focused beauty.

Q: What is your biggest beauty philosophy

Beauty Influencer: Beauty should make you feel good, not pressured. Makeup is an expression of creativity, skincare is a method of self-care. And neither should be a measure of what you know you are worth.

Try products because you enjoy them; not because you have to live up to someone else's idea of beauty.

The beauty industry is still evolving, but the basic point of our influencer interview is clear: listen to what you want and be aware of what is relevant to your own needs and pick products thoughtfully, and don’t let social media define beauty for you.

A successful beauty routine doesn’t have to consist of dozens of expensive products. Consistency, sun protection, appropriate skincare and informed choices are more important than chasing the latest viral trend.

Beauty influencers can give us inspiration and practical advice, but consumers need to distinguish between personal experiences and professional medical advice. When persistent skin, hair or scalp issues arise, we need to go to a dermatologist or healthcare professional who is qualified to treat them.

Beauty is a subjective choice. And the best beauty choices are the ones that help you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin, whether you prefer a minimal routine or enjoy experimenting with bold makeup.
